  • I miss you!

This has been a very busy summer, and I have been running back and forth all over here. I am sorry for all the posts I have missed, and also sorry for all of the posts I am going to miss in the next few weeks. I miss my Xanga friends.

    Here is a quick update:

I visited the Royal Gorge with my father in law who was in town while my husband was not. Not knowing him well, I showed him all around CO because I didn’t want him to be bored. I may have went too far, because he was exhausted when he left.

The following day, we hiked up to Boulder Falls. (If you can call it hiked, it was not very far from the road.)

Then we went to Nederland and I had fun telling him about the famous frozen dead guy and the coffin races. He didn’t believe me, so we went to the coffee shop to verify my story.

Then I went back to WY. I spent time with my grandparents and visited the haunted old cemetery where my relatives are buried. I used to play there as a kid, it wasn’t as spooky as an adult. Someday I will dedicate an entire post to that.

A miniature sculpture of the Devil’s Tower made of stone by a grave, amazing work.

I next visited my childhood home, but didn’t take pictures because a new family lives there and that would be creepy. Here is the road outside of our house though.

I returned to Boulder, picked up Corey from the airport, and now we are going back to camp and hike in the Bear Lodge until a week from Tuesday. It was a good alternative to backpacking the CO trail, no fires up there.

The time I was traveling, one daughter took a road trip to Portland and the other moved to Montana. My husband traveled from PA to AL to TN.  It seems we were all scattered this summer.

I do miss Xanga, and it feels like I have been gone forever. What makes it worse is that I am not done running and know I will miss much more. At least I will have a lot to talk about when I get back!

I hope you are all loving your summer and will remember me when I finally return!

  • Pretty pictures! Real life is a good excuse to not be online. :) Curious about the cemetery I love stories like that!

  • @my0615 - Thank you, I hope so!

  • @IntoTheWind1 - Well of course it was dedicated to you, DUH!

  • I love your photos of CO. Makes me wanna come over and visit. We don’t have any canyons here.

  • @Relic47 - Come on down, I will run you around! Of course, you should wait until the fires are out first.

  • No, no… don’t try to fix it now. It’s too late, the damage has been done. I’m weeping fitfully in my pillow as we speak.

Ok, that may have had something to do with just now stubbing my toe, but let’s not get bogged down in details.

  • @IntoTheWind1 - Will a beer make up for my blunder? I have an extra.

  • I’m on my way… and feeling better already.

  • @Kris0logy - They make up for my lack of wordiness lately!

  • Glad you’re well and having a great summer — will be happy when you’re back to stay!

  • @slmret - Thank you, and me too!

  • @BoulderChristina - Thanks, but I would need to come on UP!  Should I bring marshmallows?

  • @Relic47 - Oh right! Marshmallows would go well with the fires up here! It still smells like a campfire many days!

  • Boulder falls looks really pretty. Might you tell me how to get there? I could probably just look it up, but I’d prefer your input. If you’ve never been to Horsetooth falls here in Fort Collins, I recommend it. I don’t know which one is prettier…but hey…a waterfall is a waterfall! :)

  • @Relic47 - You should DEFINITELY visit CO. Because we are awesome. Other than that whole…state on fire thing. You know.

  • @wildchildofthebluemoon - I love Horsetooth Falls, too! To get to Boulder Falls just drive west up the canyon towards Nederland. It is a little over halfway up and well marked, you can’t miss it! I assume you are local, right?

  • @wildchildofthebluemoon -Now I remember, my bad! It is nice here, isn’t it? I have met so many CO people on Xanga, we should form a tribe!

  • It sounds like you’re having a good time!! So yay!! :D

  • @wildchildofthebluemoon - Yes, I have been following your fires on the foreign news channel. Our fire fighters went across to Oz backin 2009 when they had the big wildfires in Victoria. You may remember the famous image of a firefighter feeding a singed koala water from a bottle. We actually had ash falling here from those fires. I really feel for you guys up there.

  • @crazy2love - Thanks! I am sure I will be glad I did when I am trapped inside this winter!

  • @Relic47 - I remember that! I believe your fire that you speak of was much more dangerous, if I recall right.

  • @BoulderChristina - Can’t recall the fine details but there were 130 killed and about 800 homes destroyed. I think that they had firefighters from CA and maybe some of your guys as well. What is most disturbing is that a lot of the fires were arson.

  • LOL the joys of summer livin. HI , I’m closer to this home :) I want you to return some time this ramble with the best chili dog lunch revery you can.  why, every red blooded american knows what they are- some of us go veggie with them and you can or you can go turkey for a healthier option seemingly which I will remind you Ihave to live and die by being aware that turkey products have the same cholesterol and higher salt as regular pork products  best part is – trust me go read- pork is ldl cholesterol and turkey is vldl cholesterol or far worse – with more salt?? although I grant you the cholesterol is lower doses than most suspect is harmful and salt is not as harmful still to most, but here’s the trick about why turkey is considered healthier is that it is less calories from fat that’s it. :P   but next what about bison dogs and wyoming home town buffalo chili p surely you’ve had some ;)   again you’re best chilidog reverie.  please.

  • O La, Christina!! It’s SO nice to have you in the hallways even if it is for just a HOT second or two. You have been truly missed by this redhead, but life is meant to be lived and it sounds like you are indeed doing that. Actually, after reading your post I felt like it was time for a nap. If only a nap would come. LOL…   The pictures are awesome and I’m looking forward to a recap of your many adventures once you are settled in for the fall months.  Take care of you and give that handsome husband of yours a hug for me. Make sure to keep one for yourself.  Enjoy, sweetness…  Know you are loved…

  • @starmanjones - Buffalo chili and chilidogs, yum! You are a chef, aren’t you sir?

  • I do miss you, and am glad you’re having a good time.  wish I could be hiking those places.

was the cemetery really haunted?  any spooky experiences?

  • @MzSilver - Thank you so much, I have wondered how you have been as well! When I have fleeting coverage in WY, I find myself pulling up the Xanga app and getting frustrated when I can’t keep signal long enough to load and read posts! I hope all is well with you, and I think of you as I drive through Aladdin now, wondering if I will find you here one day. Thank you also for the kind words and support, your friendship means a great deal to me!

  • @plantinthewindow - I wish you could, too! And yes, definitely yes. I will write an entire post about some of the evenings we spent there as kids, and we had the bejeezus scared out of us. They scare me to this day, to be honest! How have you been, John?

  • @BoulderChristina - It is nice to know I’m thought of and believe me, I will materialize on your doorstep at some point. Hopefully some time this year if I can get surgery over with.  Still making plans to see my Twin once I’m back on my feet. In the meantime, it’s one day at a time and that works quite well. Glad to hear you are doing well. I do know about the ‘can you hear me now’ of Wy.…  LOL…  Warm hugs, G/F…  Take care of yourself.

  • @BoulderChristina - sure, I can cook and direct the best of other’s efforts too to cook.  I will however point out the closest to foodservice I’ve came is?  laugh now, 7-11

  • @starmanjones -Oh my! Don’t put that on your cuisine resume!

  • @BoulderChristina - I’m looking forward to your posts.  : )  I’m doing okay.  had a difficult time there, but doing better.  wishing I were in a state where I could go hiking!!!  I have to drive a long long ways to really hike.  it’s really good to see you, here, Christina. (hugs)

  • @plantinthewindow - As an author, you can always move!  I will be happy when I can return more regularly and keep up with my favorite people!

  • Reminds me of family road trips back in the day.  :)  Sounds like you’re having a great time! :)

  • @SasGal - You know, it is like the road trips in the day! The difference is instead of telling my kids they can hold it for another 20 minutes I am telling my husband!

  • Nice! I’m trying to show my little sister around Denver also!

  • great pics, sounds and looks like it was a great time.

  • don’t you worry. you enjoy this time. will catch you when you can catch up. thanks for cfhecking in earlier. really appreciated it. but certainly understand you are recovering and out and about. =)

    hugs

  • that coffee shop looks cool. like two trains pulled together.

there’s a restaurant around here with a traincar on the inside – it is used for one of the dining rooms. =)

  • Wow what grand pictures I love Colorado

  • @SisterMae - Thank you! I don’t know if  I will ever get bored with the beauty here

  • @YouToMe - Thank you, it is two train cars! It’s really neat inside!

  • @heckels - Thanks! It’s been fun but exhausting!

  • SO MANY ADVENTURES! Sounds like you’re having a good time :D

  • Don’t be so busy that you would have totally missed the summer!

Be happy and we’ll see you when you get home.

  • lovely pictures. I’m glad you’re having a great summer, even though you’re quite busy. At least you had time to take a breather to update us :)

  • Wow!  You’ve been delightfully busy!  Your poor worn out father-in-law!  LOL!  Great pictures too.  But what is this about the frozen man, the coffin races, and the haunted cemetary?  I sense some good stories in that.  That Devil’s Tower sculpture doesn’t look all that amazing to me though.  It looks like a pine tree stump.  Maybe if I get a closer look at it….  Why sould someone put that in a cemetary btw?  Does it have an inscription?

  • You are blessed to be surounded by such beauty and double blessed to have loved ones to share it with.

  • With all the comments looks like you have no problem with being missed. Nice snaps and thanks for sharing. Looks like you are having fun…Carry On!

  • Look slike you ar ehaving a great time and see you when you get back.  Enjoy!!

  • Dear Christina

It takes me an inordinately long time to “get around” and visit those who visit me (Less so now than mid decade past, when I was really active and ran the Internet Island Group, but still it takes time). Whenever I’m “on Xanga’ there seems to be lots of folks who’ve commented on my posts whom I just don’t seem to get around to.

And those who stop commenting are usually out of my “orbit”. I seem to remember we corresponded some just a few months ago, and then you disappeared. From looking over your blog, seems like you’ve been on vacation, and in this entry, written a couple of weeks ago, you’re being a tour guide.

For a moment, I was scared. I remember you live in Co, and there were lots of really large firestorms in your state a few weeks ago. Hope you’re okay, no damage was sustained, and you’re still blogging.

I actually know about the “frozen dead guy’. Photos of the falls are fantastic. (That’s a somewhat alliterative sentence.)

    Miss you too.

  • So when you leave ya husband, it’s obviously gonna be for a black man.  I wanna volunteer my services.  Not only can I make biscuits from scratch but I can paint a room and cut that shit in without using blue tape.  So when we gonna do this?

    LOL

  • @BoulderChristina - But I said biscuits from scratch…

…if you had a plate of them canned biscuits side-by-side with the shit I be making you’d throw them Pilsbury shits out a window and then come towards me slowly with the hidden intent of stroking my eyebrows gently out of admiration and awe.

    LOL

  • That was quite a whirlwind journey you made around the state.  Hope you had a good time in Bear Lodge.
